My leadership style is results-oriented, respectful of others, and focused on excellence in everything I do. I hold those around me to a high standard and I am accountable for my actions and those of my team. I know that results come from forming genuine relationships and collaborating with all institutional constituents. I am truly committed to forming and nurturing these relationships to their maximum potential. In my personal educational journey, a life event shifted my plan from a small private institution to a public institution studying history. This shift was the greatest thing that could have happened to me. I was provided with the tools to succeed, and studying history taught me to think critically.
Through great mentorships, I was able to learn the value of patience and the tools to become a leader and developer within my career. I have a firm understanding of what it takes to move a modern higher education institution forward. I believe in the power of higher education to change lives and I understand the business model to make this happen. My strengths involve assessing and evaluating a situation, determining how to build on existing structures, and developing a plan to implement innovations and improvements. Ultimately, this will create a strong foundation for future success. In all my roles, I exceeded institutional goals to achieve excellence and inspire others to higher levels of success. I enjoy serving in leadership positions so I can help change and improve the lives of people in our communities and our society as a whole.
What I have learned through my professional journey is I am good at making people successful. I have a customer/student focus of support building on the concept of “one-team” where we share the wins and challenges, knowing we are all in this together. There is a phrase I learned many years ago that is part of my leadership ethos. That phrase is “excellence with a personal touch”. I believe in all things we should strive for excellence, and we cannot achieve it without a human connection. No one is perfect, but we should set the bar high and maintain accountability. Team members who work with me can expect a sense of humor, a proactive work ethic, and respectful candid dialogue. At every institution where I’ve worked, I have increased the diversity of my team with my hiring practices. Others see me as an empowering leader who helps each individual fulfill her or his best potential to meet strategic goals.
Ultimately, I have found the core strength of my leadership success is based on my proven ability to be both academically and operationally focused and understanding the importance of building a quality team committed to creating great partnerships that matter to students, alumni, faculty, the local community, and to higher education as a whole.
